This book appears to be a scanned copy or facsimile of the original book published in 1891. The facsimile also appears to have been made from a library book owned by the University of Toronto Library, because it has a Toronto Library mark on one of the very last pages.
But, all the other pages of text, page numbers, and photos appear exactly the same and in the same order as the original printed edition which I had the privilege of reading. My next door neighbor loaned me his original edition.
In telling the story about Chief Sitting Bull, the author relates the life of the Indian tribes during a hundred years of America's westward expansion and the Indian's relationship with the U.S. Army, early settlers, frontiersmen and other tribes.
Chapter XX - Indian Wars is a real surprise. Never before in any book on western history have I ever found a catalogue of the Indian conflicts with related financial costs per battle to the U.S. Government. Where else will you ever find the sum total cost given by a government census agent shown from actual records of Indian battles from 1776 to 1886? It was appalling, but a unique and thought-provoking section. The chapter alone was well worth the price of this book.

Was as advertised. The pages are in great shape and very readable.
Enjoyed this read. Fits well with my Civil War and post Civil War era books about key people and players in American history.
